pwoller
I feel your pain Otty. My poor dog these last couple months hasn't gotten a lick of good petting. Im just not in the mood the tank is taking all my energy. I advise you to get a hobby where you can hit things very hard and that is acceptable. Otty
Thats the BEST way to look at it. Had tanks all my life so I'm not going to give up just just because of a little set back. I do need to learn a few more 4 letter words as I have wore out the ones I already know. I advise you to get a hobby where you can hit things very hard I pound weight already so that is where I take out most of my anger.... Otty
Done some work to the tank a few months ago and forgot to post some of my progress so here goes: The end by the OF is all the rock that was moved over from the 55g when I took it down so it was, more or less, just laid in the tank like a brick wall. (I hate the looks of it) Since then I have noticed that the flow there is awful and everything seems to be gathering there and building up. I am going to attach the rock to a PVC structure that I will pump water through to keep the movement on that end of the tank good. Plus I like to have a cliff or shelf to put coral on there. I really enjoy doing things with the tank so to me it is just something to mess with. I am building every thing outside the tank and then will just assemble it inside when I am done. I have shoulder length gloves so I will keep my skin out of the water. Here is something of the sorts that I am shooting for. This is from a 900g system. I want the sand to be open and not looked cluttered.
Otty
After the nuked rock was cleaned and dried I have now started to put together the new rock structure. I took some measurements of the tank and mocked up a tank profile out of wood in the garage to create everything there so it is a quick install to the tank and less stress on the tangs. I found a diamond bit 1 3/8" hole saw that I am using to just poke a hole through the rock instead of attaching it with plastic wire ties. Here is some of the progress I got done. Otty
Here is some picture taken in May of last year when I had installed it all in the tank. I'll try and get some more recent pictures tonight when I get home.
ReefRider
I went with a Ocean Motion 4 way valve and this is the proposal of plumbing that I came up with to make sure I could keep flow at the other ond of the tank. Here is some more progress of the wall and stand. O, Your craftsmanship is amazing, maybe you can hook me up in your spare time. Take Care, Lu

Otty
Finally got the ERV piped in last night and powered it up about 6:00pm. Nice to have fresh air in the house now. I can really see a difference in the tanks pH once it was turned on too. If anyone thinks there is not a gas exchange at the water surface, especially keeping tanks covered..... are only fooling themselves. ph usually drops at night but it didn't last night. Here is data from the controller and graphs from my signature generator host.
Scalare102079
Okay, for the layman.. what is an ERV? or am I just not thinking enough? Love the graphs, btw..lots of info there.
Otty
Okay, for the layman.. what is an ERV? Energy Recovery Ventilator They are made mostly for the newer homes that are more energy efficient because no outside (fresh) air makes it in the house. Nice solution to improve indoor air quality
Scalare102079
so you installed an erv not an hrv... did you have to have the defrost option too?
Otty
so you installed an erv not an hrv... did you have to have the defrost option too? I went with the ERV model so I could take advantage of it in the summer too. The one I purchased does have the defrost option.
