Blue Reef
Hi All, I have a sump set up with the inflow emptying into a filter sock. I had been taking the filter sock out and rinsing it out every week, but recently read that this should be changed out twice daily and washed in the washing machine with hot water and bleach. Just curious as to how and how often you guys mess with your filter socks. Thanks in advance for the help!
Dustin1300
Twice a day is a lot but also depends on what Micron sock you're using. If I use a 10 micron sock when I'm dosing LaCl it starts clogging roughly 12 hours later. If I'm using a 100 micron sock I change out every 2-3 days. If you leave it in too long then you're defeating the purpose of the sock as you're likely just breaking down the organic matter in the sock. What size Micron are you using and what is the size of system?
Blue Reef
I have a rectangular 200 micron bag. Tank is a 46 gallon bowfront with a 10 gallon sump.

I'd say change it out at least 2-3 times a week and gather a batch of them so you can put them in rotation. The more often you change it the better. pwoller
2 times a day? Thats crazy! I change mine once a week at the most but I dont think they actually do all that much at least in my set up.
