Hello, this will be my first meeting with the group and I'm really looking forward to attend.  My wife and I will be bringing potato salad.

We live in Woodfield subdivision down the street and it will be great to meet new friends!

Awesome, looking forward to meeting you both!

Def will not be at this one. Amber and I are leaving for Hawaii to celebrate our 2yr anniversary that morning.

If we get a big response I can help to get some adult beverages into the hands of someone who is going, just let me know.

Craig, hope you have a nice, big turnout for it. Let me know if I can help with anything beforehand.

Thanks! Great timing LOL, you're a weekend too late... I just sanded down the deck to bare wood and re-stained it. (Built a temporary canopy to protect it from all the rain). Now I need to work on the tank and all the other projects lined up for me.

Have a great trip, I'm jealous! Which island(s)?

  3. The only time I upgraded tanks was... a little over 16 years ago and I didn't have corals as I was just a fowlr. The move was from a 55 to my current 125.  I did transfer all my sand but did "vacuum" it fairly well. I transferred the LR a portion one day at a time and then added some more. I only took one week to let the new tank settle but as I mentioned only a fowlr. I did not lose any fish and the cycle was minimal. I did not use Tim's at that time.

In your case, (assuming your bed is not deep... 1-2 inches) I can see taking more time but aside from cleaning the sand without destroying the bacteria. I would definitely would use Tim's and like you are doing plan, and be patient. Good Luck, I hope it all goes well!

  4. Sorry to hear this. The male is usually the smaller of the pair. Sometimes its just hard to figure out why they perish. I have no idea what a "typical" life span of a clownfish is, but you have to be doing something right for a six year run.

I had a male /female (non-reproductive) pair for about 12 years. The smaller male died of unknown causes that I could detect  (clear eyes, no fungus, no labored breathing, all normal signs to me). I thought the female may go shortly thereafter. She is now 20 and I wouldn't even try to bring in another clown as I'm sure it would just be killed. I keep on thinking that the female looks a bit ragged as she now frequently has some split fins etc. but she hangs in there. If you are transferring to a new tank an addition is possible. Good Luck!
