  1. Do you have any other means adding oxygen to the water? If not, I would consider adding a small hang on the back power filter, like an Aquaclear 20. You don't have to put any media in it, but could just use it to for extra water movement. It would also help to add O2 to the water. The problem with air stone, especially in a small tank like that, is they will add to salt creep, as the air bubbles rise to the surface and pop.
  2. I bought mine from Air, Water, Ice. They are one of the Club's sponsors, and offer a 10% off discount code in their forum here on the site. Others have bought from Buckeye Field Supply, The Filter Guys, and Bulk Reef Supply. I've also heard good things about the Vertex RO/DI units carried at Premium Aquatics.
  3. Sorry to hear the tank went south while you were out, and that they gave everything away. Have you talked with the Store that the PTA gave everything to? I would explain to them that the equipment wasn't the PTA's to give away. Or at least explain that to the PTA!
  4. Put some in a 5 gallon bucket, about half full, and start a running water over it. Let the bucket fill and then overflow with the water. Stick your hand in to stir it up a couple of times. When the water spilling out of the bucket is clear, then it's time to switch out the batch of sand in the bucket. Repeat until all of your sand is cleaned. Good luck!
  5. Having trouble taking the hint?
  6. send a pm to noodlenugswife (lisa). she should be able to help you out.
  7. I agree with Paul on this one. Unless the water changes are part of the ammonia dosing, then you don't need to do water changes during the tank cycle. In fact, water changes during the cycle will only prolong the cycle. If you wait long enough, your Nitrite will start to drop back to 0 on its own. Your tank is just building up its population of bacteria that converts the Nitrite to Nitrate. The patience part is the tough one in this hobby. Most people want to have the fish in their tank as soon as possible, which is understood. One thing you need to remember in this hobby is that nothing good happens quickly. There are some people in the hobby who don't even begin testing their tank water in a new tank until after it has been cycling 12 weeks. Patience. In the long run, it will be so much better if you can wait out the cycle and not rush things.
  8. Are there any specific questions you had on your tank, or were you just wondering what people thought based on your set up date and current readings? Also, to make sure I don't insult your intelligence, what is your level of experience with tanks? Have you kept tanks before, or is this your first one?
  9. Looks like your tank is still cycling. You don't have any fish in there, do you? Eventually, your Ammonia will drop to zero, while your Nitrite continues to rise. Then, your Nitrite will peak and then start to drop. When this happens, your Nitrate will start to rise. Once your ammonia and nitrite are at 0, measure your Nitrate. Depending on how high that reading is, you may want to do a small water change before adding any fish. Also, what size tank do you you have? That will help people in advising what kind of fish to get, or stay away from, for you FOWLR. Oh, and Welcome to INDMAS!!
  10. Are you back in the States now?
  11. I'm happy to help at the admissions table or concessions, if you need help at either of those. I've worked both at one point or another over the years.
  12. I'll be happy to emcee and call raffle ticket numbers again, so the Club Officers can rub elbows with all the attendees, sponsors, and vendors.
  13. Sorry to hear this. I hope she is found safe. Have they issued an Amber Alert for her in TX yet?
  14. Happy Birthday one and all!!
  15. On that note, entry to the Annual Frag Swap for Non-members is normally $5. An annual membership to INDMAS is $20, and gives you free access to the Frag Swap, access to the Buy/Sell forums on the site, and you will be eligible for the Member Raffle held at each Monthly INDMAS meeting, which you must be present to participate/win. With the $$ you can save by buying frags or other drygoods from members, or make by selling frags and drygoods you no longer need, the membership fee can pay for itself very quickly. And welcome to INDMAS!!
  16. Bulk Reef Supply has a nice calculator on their site where you can plug in your current readings and then the readings you want to acheive. It will calculate how much of each supplement you need to add to your tank. Also, depending on the product you're using, they offer guideline on how much to add, per gallon, to your tank based on the type of tank you have (SPS, LPS, Clams).
  17. I have bascially the same livestock and I use 2 x 10K and 2 x Current USA dual actinic in my fixture. The light is on timers so the actinic come on an hour before the 10K, and then stay on an hour longer than the 10K. I also have my fan set up so that it turns on and off with the actinics. Not sure if that helps at all or not.
  18. What are you keeping in your tank? Is the fixture a single or dual on/off?
  19. Hope it's a good one for you sir.
  20. Can you post a pic? Sounds like it could be salt creep or dying coraline algae. Is the crust on the inside, in the water? Or is it on the outside?
  21. Glad to hear you will be back soon Amanda! We'll see you in June or July, once you get settled in from the move.
  22. Hope to make it, but not sure. Will likely have family in town.
