September Meeting Retro Frag Swap
Gorgi replied to tanknovice's topic in Meetings, Gatherings and Frag-swaps
Just thought I’d mention the home page date for retro frag swap needs to be changed. It’s listed as Sept 13th which is a Tuesday. -
A battery operated airstone might come in handy if the move takes longer than expected. You can purchase those in the fishing tackle area of most chain stores like walmart.

Vender will supply a small bag, deli cup or specimen container

Did you ever take a break from the hobby?
Gorgi replied to tprize's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
Burn out can happen. Sometimes breaks are warranted. I’ve had saltwater for 43 yrs. (Thats not a typo!). Literally, The inception of the hobby. Experienced burnout from time to time myself. Sometimes life becomes more complicated limiting the time with a system. The once enjoyment becomes something else to do, and then it turns into a job taking the fun out of it. Happened to me. I can’t see myself without a tank, but i have reinvented what i keep to ignite the spark. Have had macro algae tanks with mangroves and different livestock. A Caribbean biotope. I found reinventing and simplifying a system can help, however, breaks can be good to refocus until the next system. -
Guess you are gonna win the 80 gal build contest. Btw I will be parting with one of my carib sea arches. Can either send you a pick of the two i have or bring both of them with me when i pick up my goods.

I’m currently working with a company out of Cincinnati that sells t-slotted alluminum extrusion to design a light holder for my ati 8 bulb fixture. I would prefer not to suspend from the ceiling. For those that use an ati fixture how far do you have your unit hanging from the water? Of course it depends on what your keeping, but I am thinking 8-12”. That gives me wiggle room to raise and lower if needed. It’s an 80 deep blue shallow tank.

I heard today on melevsreef live broadcast that MACNA will happen this yr. (next weekend) cost is 30.00. You get to attend virtually and hear speakers. This will not be recorded. Apparently there will be raffles too. Just for signing up you are entered, however you have to be online at the random drawing. I haven’t checked the website out yet and just sharing what Mark shared today. It would be a great educational opportunity and thought i would share. If this has already been posted elsewhere my apologies for another posting and oversight.

Masked gobies are a nice addition but are small so watch the overflow and mouth size of other fish being added. court jester goby if captive bred. They will do much better than wild caught Mated pr of neon goby would be nice, but to keep two they must be a mated pr. barbacle blenny is a nice fish but will hide a bit until established and needs plenty of holes in rockwork to live in. A lid is a must. if adding a mandarin i suggest adding one captive bred. Preferably eating prepared foods. Firefish just watch compatability

Petco is selling Live Aquaria?!
Gorgi replied to MrsBugmaster's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
I will never order from them again. Ordered 28 snails a month ago. When i placed my order items were in stock, but when shipped only received one species of snails as i was told the others were out of stock and would ship when they received them. I was told i would receive an email to verify if “ok” to ship second shipment. That didn’t happen, instead I was sent an email my snails shipped (glad I was going to be home). Both shipments arrived by 9:30 a.m. on their scheduled delivery day, but on shipment 2 the majority of the snails were already dead. Followed website acclimation for surviors. Those that were dead were covered by their arrive alive guarantee . Sent photo as instructed on website. Received credit for those snails that arrived dead. The rest were dead the next day and guaranteed for14 days, but when i submitted my second request for credit I didn’t receive a response from them. I reach out several times with no response. I gave up and decided i wouldn’t order from them again. This was my first order as I was in need of snails and one place that had them (supposedly) in stock and would be shipped overnight instead of 1-2 day priority mail. I wanted overnight service so went with liveaquaria. In my opinion their customer service was not top notch and i will never order from them again. Maybe your experience has been different, but my experience was not what I expect. I typically don’t post negative experiences about businesses, but this time I decided to share. -
DIY Extruded Aluminum Stand & 150 Tank Build
Gorgi replied to pjmattford's topic in Do It Yourself - DIY
I have seen other frames built this way online. Looks great. Thanks for sharing as this gives me an idea for a light mount to hold an 8 bulb ati t5 unit. It weighs about 40 lbs and not fond of suspending from the ceiling. The company will cut product to order which is less work for me. Thought about conduit but i refuse to buy a bender for 45.00. I like the looks of their product better. -
Beautiful fish

I need that for my 80 shallow to suspend my ati fixture. I don’t want to suspend from the ceiling and not fond of the conduit look.

Pic was was recently taken prior to lights coming on. I may not bring him and if seriously interested i will hold as his tank will be moved to make room for my new build. Would prefer to rehouse when moving this tank. -

I will be there. May bring large colony of nuclear green palys, possibly a green goby i have had for 6 yrs and only current residence in the tank. Follows me around when doing maintenance. Not fond of pellets. Hate to rehouse him but my yellow goby will be put in his tank instead. Really want him to go to a good tank. Probably have some other zoas i could bring. Have some free anthelia. -
Thanks. Need to thin the colonies. Esp nuclear green palys as they are growing into the rastas
