  1. I am very late to this thread, but I just started fooling around with my 6+ and am impressed on the photo ability. Cyphastrea morph The shrimp likes to perch Alien heart acan Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks for the replies, yes I read about making sure firmware updates are done hard wired. From the apex forum this seems to be a constant process from what one thread said about having to crawl under the stand and hook up a laptop to do the updates. It sure does appear that apex is behind the times for tech because the suggested hardware are wireless G and there are as many bad reviews as good not to mention that G is 10+ years old and I would be concerned with compatibility with my gigabit router. Is anyone using wireless N technology or wireless connectivity period? I love the concept of using the web for monitoring and control but if it can't work wireless I'll use the KISS method. 3. I would really like to get one of these systems but If I can't get this connected via wireless it will be mostly useless to me. Connecting anything via Ethernet to my router is not an option I am willing to try to attempt. The router is upstairs in the farthest bedroom from where the tank is downstairs and I am on a slab. I searched the Neptune forums and the sticky is working on three years old. I am willing to plunk down some money for the Netgear wireless adaptor or a similar piece of hardware but I am not going to take a $700 plunge if this is an exercise in futility. Is anyone using this system wirelessly and if so which type of hardware are you using to connect the apex to your network? My apologies if this has been covered but I didn't find it here. 4. I will be using this in conjunction with the ehiem feeder. It is similar to the items above. I have never fed flake so I picked this up to keep it out of my overflow as mentioned. http://premiumaquatics.com/products/innovative-marine-gourmet-defroster.html Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. I just bought the Eheim everyday feeder for my upcoming vacation. Haven't used it yet though. One of the PA staff stated that they sell a lot of them. Good reviews too on BRS. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. I dream of a large aquarium build but I sure enjoy the "intimacy" of a nano. Today I was watching the tank and saw one of my large peppermint shrimp near one of my RBTA. It appeared that it was bothering the nem. I grabbed my long tweezers to shoo it off and discovered it was being stung. Still alive I watched it closely hoping it would survive the encounter. The shrimps left side was paralyzed. After a few minutes of this I noticed the pistol nosing around then retreating back into one of its dens. Without warning the pistol raced out of the hole, snatched the injured peppermint and drug it underground as quickly as it came out. I presume that the pistol was dining on the used to be alive shrimp because what I imagine the odor of food drew the attention of the Pom Pom crab and the electric blue hermit. Both of which received a snap from the pistol. When they say it is reef safe, I guess that only applies to non injured/ healthy inhabitants. I wish I thought to have my phone recording while I was observing the peppermint. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  10. What is this? This thing came attached to the plug in the picture. It is approximately the diameter of a quarter. It came as a hitchhiker with the the ricordea coral purchased from the now defunct Reefs2Go. It was about the size of a pea when it arrived and I thought it was a bubble of superglue. Both have since moved off the plug. There are several other similar looking ones in my overflow/fuge in my bio cube, though they are white. It does not appear to be a pineapple sponge since it doesn't have the "leaves" around the opening. If it is a sponge I assume I should leave it alone. And no I didn't poke it Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Well that is food for thought. I watched some fuge videos online and there are some great options out there. I found glass cages and a slightly larger tank with the fuge, stand and shipped is still cheaper than the reefer. Any manufacturers of marine grade furniture? The solid red oak stand from glass cages is nice but I am concerned about damage from the water. I think the 195 is beyond me at this point. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Hello All, Now that I have had some good success (and lack of) I am considering a bigger build. Since I do not possess the depth of knowledge for a from scratch build and the desire for time savings I am considering purchasing the reefer 350. Does anyone have experience with this setup? If so what is your opinion? I desire having a fuge with whatever build I decide on but there does not appear to be an easy way to attach this to the reefer and have it concealed. There is a compartment that is supposed to be for a chiller, but I do not believe that will be necessary. Other builds I have seen on the web utilize this space for controllers, storage etc. I guess another question is if you had to do a hundred gallon total setup with the knowledge you have now would you go with this rig? Why or why not? Thanks David Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Success, I purchased the fish and an isolation box (elite aquatics) from PA. The isolation box is well made. The juvenile stayed in the box for 24+ hours and was able to eat cyclopeeze that would blow in through the slots. I introduced the juvenile into the aquarium about an hour before lights out last night. After about 20 minutes the female found him and nudged it underneath one of my rbta. The juvenile displayed submissive behavior towards the female. At no time was she aggressive towards him, whew. https://vimeo.com/148936249 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. I have a mature GSM that is about 3.5 inches in length that I have had for about two years. Just yesterday my RBT split and now my clown doesn't know what to do. I thought that now my tank seems to be doing really well I would try to get a mate for this beautiful fish. I did a bit of reading on pairing GSM and was wondering if anyone had any success. I presume it is a female and is aggressive towards the printed side of one of my algae scrapers, has nipped me a time or two but nothing unusual from what I am aware of. One thread I saw said to purchase the smallest juvenile you can find and slowly introduce it using a specimen container. If after three tries the suggestion was to start over with another fish. The GSM is the only fish in my cube. I am not sure if it is worth trying or not. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  16. They are planning to do so. Since the location is new they are working on pod production. What is really good though is that if you notify them by Thursday of any item you desire, they will transport it to indy saving you the shipping cost. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. I'm sure most of you know this already but in the event you don't here it is. "Our new Indianapolis store is open on Fridays and Saturdays 12 to 6. It is located at 5038 Kentucky Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana. A small building with a large selection." As of yesterday I was informed that the satellite location will be announcing an additional weekday opening soon, as well as a larger freshwater selection being constructed in the basement. 19. Reefs2go bongo pods is on. The deal says expired but my order went through. Hurry if interested. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. Update, reef cleaners packaging is poor. Had a heat pack but a cardboard shipping box and newspaper with the contents, not pleased. Teenage kid took care of acclimation. But I am not confident that any survived. Reefs to go packaging is much superior. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. My biocube has been established for almost 2 years but it has coarse substrate obtained from PA. You are welcome if interested. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. Done, ordered $30 worth, thanks! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  25. Now several hours later watching the urchin, I see it popping out small off white pellets about the size and color of nerite snail eggs. These pellets are one at a time about a minute apart and they sink to the bottom of the tank. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
