Quick update for everyone who has been helping me: Softies and Livestock are super health, SPS still looks like crap. Still having hair algae issues Nitrates <1 on Salifert test, Phosphates are 35 ppb Alk has been hovering in the low 6s, guessing this is my main SPS problem. I'm dosing Alk and Calcium now, also put a bigger Phosban bag in there to try to get the Phosphates below 10 ppb. Might look into getting a small tang to help with the algae cleanup since my bioload is still low. Thanks Brandon and Clint for the help!

January 2018 Indmas Meeting - tanknovice
calebtrueblue replied to waldend's topic in Meetings, Gatherings and Frag-swaps
I'm planning to be there! -
Anyone looking for a free meal? I was hoping to get some other members' opinions on my tank. My SPS is losing some color and I've got some pest anenomes taking over the tank. PM if you like burgers and Custard!

Goby showed up out of nowhere
calebtrueblue replied to calebtrueblue's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
I had a starfish end up in an overflow once, but never a fish. I have a pretty tight lid so jumping in the overflow would be a task. Since I made this post, I haven't seen him again. Thinking about getting him a pistol shrimp. -
So I was doing my morning feeding today and a yellow goby showed up. I can't even remember buying a yellow goby, and if I did it was over 2 years ago. I'm totally beside myself. I look at this thing every day, I can't believe he was hiding this whole time.

New Inexpensive Controllable Powerheads
calebtrueblue replied to Luke33's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
Question: How good of a job does having one of these do? Most setups I've seen have two or more and they are opposed to get a nice wave action. If I take out one of my standard powerheads and throw one of these in there, will it still achieve a good result? I have a 60g BTW. -
Been up for a week with no issues. really strong magnets, highly recommended.

Took some more pictures today. I think I have too much stuff in here. It's starting to look messy. Oh well. Nice shot of some of the higher light corals and SPS. The Monti has been growing like a weed lately. Had to chop off part of it since it was blocking light to my acans, will have to chop it again soon. The Bubble anemone I got at the swap last year. It split 2 days after i got it closeup of some of my SPS. The green is going through a growth spurt. The tips are really white, it this normal? Nice Acan and Hammer. I have frags of the Hammer at the restaurant if someone wants one. Duncans were shy today, they are normally great. New mushroom from Brendan and a clown photobomb

Also, not a bad idea to add some iodine in the tank. Helps the molting process.

I'll try that one off ebay. It says up to 1/2" glass which is what mine is. I'll report back when I get it and see if it stays up.

I need to get a frag rack for my 60 rimless. I tried the eshopps, but the glass was too thick for the magnets and it kept falling off. I tried a cheap suction cup one too, but that fell off as well. Anyone had good luck with one not falling off all the time?

Once again I missed the swap cause 3 people called off work. I swear people mark that day on their calendar to call off. If anyone didn't get rid of as much as they wanted, shoot me a pm, I'm looking to pick up some zoas mostly, but I'll take shrooms or other softies. Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk

Having a fish die off
calebtrueblue replied to calebtrueblue's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
Update, still haven't had any more fish die, so it's been about 6 weeks. I think I'm going to look to restock next week. Maybe I'll find something at the swap. Still don't know what happened. I'll just chalk it up to the nature of the hobby. -
Having a fish die off
calebtrueblue replied to calebtrueblue's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
Everything was eating fine and there were no signs of stress or parasites on any of the fish. I had done some painting in the bathrooms but kept the door shut and the place is pretty well ventilated. Half of the die off was before the painting started though, so I don't think that's its. I feed Omega One Marine Flakes, and once or twice per week, I'll throw in a cube of mysis or brine. There is an outside chance an employee got windex or sanitizer around the tank, but everyone knows pretty well to stay away from the tank with chemicals. Can't rule out a customer throwing something in. Since posting, I haven't lost anything, so I'm still at two fish. I did a couple 10g water changes. The SPS in the tank has magnificent polyp extension, but my palys, anenomes, and softies look sick. Duncans and Hammers look good. If anyone wants to lend another set of eyes, PM me and I'll buy you lunch.
