reefnfun
The clam is definitely sick. Its not extending fully and looks bad. I am doing massive water changes to see if that helps. everyone pray for the clam because I like to hear. Oh yea; your the guy with the big clam. I dont want him to become a knick knack on the coffee table. I want to keep him around for a long time. If anyone has any words of wisdom on clam rehab please let me know. Thanks
noodlenugs
I dont have any words of wisdom for you, but good luck! How is your bulbs over that tank?
JokerGirl
Like I said earlier, I'd pick the sucker up and check it for heavy Pyramid snail infestation. I know you mentioned that you've always had them, so it might be time to give it's shell a good scrubbing. Those evil suckers are what killed my Teardrop Maxima several years ago, but were pretty easily managed with a good shell scrubbing.
reefnfun
the snails come out at night. I will inspect it tonight in the middle of the night. Nugs. I bought those cheap bulbs from 1000bulbs.com. They are starting to turn yellow pretty bad I recommend the 250 watt cheap bulbs but the 400 watt are POS. I have 2 400W reeflux 12K's brand new, I will change them out tomorrow. It could be the lights the clam doesn't like. I just did another 33 gallon trashcan water change. When in doubt, dilute it lol. thanks
pwoller
That sucks. Thats an awful big clam to take a nose dive like that, like others said I'd look for something snacking on it first.

reefnfun
Here is an update on my clam. This pic is what it looked like yesterday. It looks much better today. the clam is extending its mantle more today. It still looks pretty bad but much improvement from yesterday. I am not ready to call this a success yet. Hopefully it is on the mend. Thanks for asking Katrina, Hey can I move my clam to your Solana for healing? it won't take up much room I promise it won't lol. JokerGirl
Is it just a trick of the photo, or is it bleached out? You might shade it with some screens for a while?
reefnfun
No trick of the camera, Its definitely Bleached out. I had those cheap lights on there from 1000bulbs.com. They were getting pretty yellow. Maybe it butned the clam or something. I changed them out to reeflux 400W 12K. this clam was under those for a long time so it should be ok right jovkergirl????. Do clams bleach? I know that they will expel their Zooxanthellae when stressed out.
reefnfun
Here is a pic I just took today. The clam is opening and closing and is getting more responsive. It never has stayed still so I just repositioned it and it slammed shut. The mantle is definitely messed up but the clam seems to be getting back to itself. It is extending more but still not all the way like it used to. I have done 3 water changes. (large trash can) the whole system is 400 gallons, that should be enough. I have another trash can ready to go but I think I will use that for topoff. The calcium reactor is offline and I am not adding any supplements. I don't think there is anything else I can do. thanks, Mike
JokerGirl
The clam is definitely looking better today. They can most definitely bleach out, so if it doesn't keep looking better, I would shield it from the light a bit.
reefnfun
The clam is still alive. It doesn't look any better but it also doesn't look any worse. I am going to just leave it alone and hope it gets better.
reefnfun
Here is an update on the clam. I feel like it is safe to say it is going to make it. It looks a lot better than it did before, It is not hard at all to kill a clam. Here is a pic I took tonight. Thank's for all your comments and advice. I have started dosing calcium again. Everything is getting back to normal, take care

WillandMelsReef
super glad to here he's recovered...do you think it was those cheap lights that caused the initial issue, I've heard good and bad about those lights (but mostly bad)
reefnfun
I don't know what caused it. The lights were on there for a while before the clam went bad. They were the cheap 400 watt bulbs and they pretty much whitewashed everything in the tank. I am running the cheap 250's on my shrimp tank with atinics and I really like them. the clam was def. bleached so I guess it could have been those lights
