Guest Willy
You have a stingray in a 75 gallon tank, and are looking to add another?? Do you realize that rays need LARGE open areas to live in?

Would you go insane?? To me an 8' tank is WAY too small for a ray of any kind
scarpart1984
i think she will live a long happy life in my sand. they are really cool animals i didnt stack my reef with to much rock just so she would have plenty of space. like i said she will only get around 9" not including tail. she is 6" including tail now and she will have a monster 240g this summer. think about it like this, most people cant keep them alive for to long. my buddy that worked at uncle bills for 2 years told me that most of them that came in would either die in the store or would die from the hands of the customers that bought them. im giving her a good home that she will be well taking care of, and im not gonna let her die. thank u

Guest Willy
SCOTT 24G Aquapod , 150W 14k Phoenix IF my coral in my tank looked like crap I might agree with your post.. Also, you don't need to copy and paste my signature. I am well aware of what my name is and my tanks specs. I don't care what size tank you have, rays need space. I am betting that in your 75 you barely have 1 square foot of actually sand for that ray to enjoy and be happy. If your 75 was empty it would ONLY have 6 sq. ft of space for that ray. Now add rock and coral and that number drops drastically.
pwoller
and to me a 24g tank is way to small to use as a sump let along keep corals Are you saying that a 24 gallon is too small to grow coral in? You can trim coral but last I checked trimming a stingray might not work?
noodlenugs
not joining the "debate" but just thought I would mention that scotts tank is one of the most beautifully manicured and well maintained tanks I have ever seen..nice job scott! BTTRFLYGRL
The Urobatis halleri gets 2' long and is a cold water species... http://www.wetwebmedia.com/rays.htm Doesn't seem to me to be a good choice for a reef or even most FO tanks which are kept between 78-80 degrees. I have a 240, and though it may seem a huge upgrade from a 75, it is not large enough to house a 2' stingray IMO. And honestly, I don't think anyone should buy a fish that is too big for their current tank, thinking you can upgrade later. Something might come up and your plans fall through. Good luck with it. Hocky
I had a ~5-6" cali round ray for about 6 months in my 220g tank with intentions to move it into a top down pool style tank. I added a lionfish to the tank, though, who was sitting in the sand in a corner shortly after added. Something in the tank startled the ray and it darted right into the lionfish's spines. It was dead a couple of hours later, unfortunately. One recommendation that I will give is to make sure that you've got the top covered some how... mine like to jump. pwoller
The ones I saw at the atlanta aquarium seemed to never stop moving. I bet your rays would like a baby pool or a shallow cube shaped tank. I'm thinking a 4 foot cube about 20 inches deep, that be pretty sweet. scarpart1984
then y do most websites say that this ray is recommended for at least a 75g tank, and I have had her for 4 months now and I think she is pretty small compared to tank size. And what butterflygirl mentioned about the temp in the tank. Isn't there reefs that have water temps close to 90 and they say our reef tanks should stay around 76 to 78 degrees. What should I do with this ray now. I know 100 percent I'm setting up another tank this summer
