Jaco
Hi All, Right now on my 120G I have a single QD MP40 (80% Reefcrest) and my Eheim 1262 for flow. I am thinking about changing it up, what would everyone recommend? I've always though about a Gyre since I think I could get away with only one pump which I enjoy now. I've been looked at the Octo Pulse 4 or just adding another QD MP40. I am batting a huge cyano outbreak but my SPS growth is still going great so I think it is time for more flow. Thanks! ReefNewby82
Hey Jacob... I have the gyre at home and use it on multiple tanks at work. At home i needed a pump that could give me the motion of the ocean to accommodate my SPS reef then. Worked like a charm. I use this pump at work on our SPS tank and our nem tank with great results. I can't speak of MP or octo personally on my tanks...but am definitely looking into an octopulse for Jenns tank currently due to price and controllability. Plus her tank is a reef octo dominant tank and I'm OCD about it matching lol.
puffdragon
I recently put 2 of the waveline pucks in my 180. I think I have found my new go to. Big wide flow at 3000 gph when maxed out & don't stick half way out into the tank.
MrsBugmaster
I have made my own version of the Gyre. I have two powerheads on the same side of the tank up high in the same position and pointing to the water surface. This creates the gyre effect very nicely. You just have to make sure the pumps are big enough and powerful enough to go all the way across the tank. The water ripples across the top on tank then it hits the opposite side of the tank glass and bounces back at the bottom of the tank. You may have to play around with the position a little to get it just right. I have it going side to side, but if you choice to have your front to back you may need more then 2 powerheads. I have it set up this way on my 180 and my 34 gal. Works great for me. I added a picture to see placement of ph's. I get a nice ripple all the way to the other side of the tank. Jaco
I think I am going to go gyre, anyone have issues with the newer ones?

I have a xf230 gyre and it has been amazing for the 3 mouths its been running. It does make a bit of noise, but it does go away as soon as the pump has been running in saltwater for a bit. Overall it is a great pump and my corals love it.
PetesFolly
I was running two of the new gyre's on a 125g 6' long tank and they worked great. You do have got keep the blades clean. You will notice a drop in performance as the blades get build up on them. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of.
