lrood
I have a friend who is setting up a 265g with 100g sump, looking for return pump suggestions. I think he is looking to use an external pump. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
lrood
And he is planning to use an Apex controller, if that makes any difference.
Atomic
Ive always had good luck with the "Reeflo" brand of external pumps and have never tried anything else. The Reeflo pumps are big pumps though, but Ive always had to pump water from a basement and needed the head pressure. Ive also heard good things about the Iwaki pumps. If the sump is below the tank, i think i would look into the Iwaki. They are a good buy for the money. Im no expert though.
3FordFamily
I always use jebao for the controller and they’ve proven quite reliable for the money.
jlfalin
I know it is one of the more expensive options but I would recommend a Royal Exclusive RD150-230 for the tank. I will be using a 230 for my return pump. I am currently using a RD230 on my closed loop and couldn't be happier with results. The flow is impressive for the size and power usage of the pump. It is dead silent. For example if I am working in a closed in room with the tank and pump running I can't hear the pump at all. To the touch it is room temperature and there are no vibrations even though the tank is hard plumbed to my tank. Honestly if you didn't look for the water movement you would never know it's running.
