Steel tank stands - cheap!

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, I was in the hobby several years ago but broke down my tank due to selling a house and moving. I just got back into the hobby last fall and really wanted a metal stand to maximize the space under the stand (for the sump) and to make sure it was strong enough to hold 1000+ pounds of water safely. I got several quotes but was really disheartened by the cost. I was getting prices in the $1500 range from everyone which I thought was outrageous because I'd priced out the steel to weld it myself and the cost of the materials was about $200. Not kidding. Then I ran across a place in Lebanon that quoted me $534. This was literally 1/3 the cost of everyone else. Same steel, great workmanship, just a fair price! These guys do all kinds of steel/welding fabrication and they were happy to have the work to keep their guys busy in between larger jobs. I provided a drawing with dimensions from Sketch-up and they knocked out the work in about 3 days. I asked them about powercoating, which they don't do. They had a local guy who they could send it to to have it done, but it was something like another couple hundred which was more than I wanted to spend. I ended up just degreasing, primering, and spraying it with a couple rattle cans in my garage for about $40. It turned out fantastic, in my opinion, and I've attached a pic.

The business is ATP Steel in Lebanon, Indiana and I talked to a dude named Tim. If you Google them they pop right up. I can't say enough good things about them!
