Upcoming nightmare......

Recommended Posts

So I am buying home finally.....yea...but it seems as if I won't be able to get into the house until the end of October.

This is a conflict because I have to be outta my apartment by the 22nd of this month. So I have to move twice and do a month to month in another apartment (due to mine already being re-rented).

This means I have to move my three tanks and am trying to figure out the best/safest way to go to lessen the stress of livestock.

I have a 75 mixed reef, 34 gallon anemone tank and 20 gallon frag tank.

So I am thinking of buying a 125 drilled tank to move most of this into the temp apartment.

I also may need to buy/borrow some tanks for the move liek 20 gallon long or something as well as will need extra heaters or may just buy some more.

Anyone that would want to come help is surely welcome and would give some corals or beer or both!

I agree with Budman. I to have had great luck in moving tanks and live stock if reuse the water they are acustom too. I have also kept livestock in tubs and feed buckets for a few days while replumbing setup and waiting for the stirred up gunk to settleout of the water. This gunk can be cleaned prior to setting the live rock and restocking. Ive always kept a shallow sand bed in the tank with just enough water to cover to keep it moist while moving and set up. Power heads and heaters are your friends in the temp storage tanks if you use them for more than a few hours. Also if you plan on moving the fish as a group, give them some small rock or ?? to use as cover This will reduce the stress if they feel they can hide. Any storage over a day and you should test the water to catch any changes. The only thing ive ever lost in a move was a starfish and this had been atacked by a tankmate. Again test the water dead livestock will result in bad water and is deadly.

Good luck to you on your move. :140_animated_fish_swimming:

What did you end up buying for an interim holding tank? Using a baby / kiddie pool works really well if you can find one out in stores still. You can then easily use multiple pumps and heaters, suspend a light over it, and canister filter works great short term for keeping the water polished up. You can even set your internal skimmer right down in the pool if you have one.
