hebbster
Got asked by a friend what this was - we're not sure!! Appears every so often then gets eaten or something, we just split up a couple of tanks of live rock and this appeared maybe a month after. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris
bsharding1982
What do you have in your tank? That may help identify it.
hebbster
What do you have in your tank? That may help identify it. Well not complete but some of the bigger things: Bristle worms Cleaner shrimp Urchins. (Spiny and pin cushion) Tangs Clown fish Wrasse Seahorse (female) Lotsa crabs (can those things multiply?), snails, cleanup crew stuff. Some SPS stuff but can't imagine that's creating it. Dustin1300
I really can't tell from the picture you originally uploaded....I've looked at this post a few times now Can you get a picture that shows it a bit more clearer?
bsharding1982
I was thinking last night that maybe it was something expelled from an anemone, but doesn't look like you have any or even any LPS. How big is it usually, and is it like mucus?
JokerGirl
Almost looks like an egg mass, perhaps from your urchins. Just an idea.
hebbster
I was thinking last night that maybe it was something expelled from an anemone, but doesn't look like you have any or even any LPS. How big is it usually, and is it like mucus? Sorry on vacation/out of town, so slow to reply. Got back, gone now (as has happened before). No anemones. About 1 to 1/2" in diameter, yep slimy. Probably thinner than mucus... but then depends on the mucus!! (yeech!) Interesting idea on the urchin, I've only seen the eggs inside years ago when they'd get broken up for fish food when diving - really don't know much about them though. Will try to get a better picture next time it happens.
