  1. This is my first time setting up full time QT tanks. Typically when I get a new fish, I set up my 10Gal QT tank with half water from my display tank and half fresh saltwater. I was getting sick of having an empty gross looking tank when I wasn't quarantining anything, so I came up with a new idea. I'm in the process of setting up 2 QT tanks. Both will be up 24/7. The first is 20Gal that I will use to quarantine / medicate fish. The second is a 10Gal that I'm going to use to QT coral/inverts, as well as use it as a hair algae clean up tank. I plan on keeping 1 snail and 1 emerald crab in here full time once it's a bit more established. I'm also going to rotate pieces of live rock from my display tank to (hopefully) have the snail and crab give it a nice cleaning. I will also use this as a coral observation tank when I get new corals. Now that you know what I'm trying to do, I have a few questions. 1. Since I've never kept a QT tank up without fish, what will I have to do to ensure the water quality is kept up? I will likely go with no/very little light when their are no fish. Obviously I will keep an eye on salinity. Do I have to worry about ammonia getting too low and not keeping my beneficial bacteria alive? I will likely seed this tank with some rubble from my display tank. 2. For the Coral/inverts/clean up tank, do I need to maintain a day night cycle when I don't have corrals in there? Again, I'm more worried about killing off the "live" part of the live rock. I don't think the inverts will mind the lack of lighting. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get further along. Thanks in advance for any advice.
