  1. I have it cycling now... trying to decide what I want to put in it. I am thinking maybe some german blue rams and some cardinal tetras. I need to change out the lighting because the electronic ballast trips the AFCI in our bedroom. I am thinking of some DIY LED in the hood.
  2. I doubt many people here remember me, but I am just poking in to say that the sickness never goes away for long. Probably just going to do a simple freshwater tank for the kiddos. Maybe a couple plants to keep algae growth down. Might need to add some compressed co2 so they can outcompete the algae. Of course will need a controller for the co2 as I dont like constantly testing parameters. That way I only need to track KH. might add an ATO to reduce maintenance. Now that I think of it, I think I still have a MH pendant in the attic. Crap, with a 250w HQI I am really gonna need a fertilizer dosing pump. Yeah, just a simple freshwater tank for the kids. Just goldfish... or a mated pair of discus or something
  3. Sorry, I don't have access to the buy/sell forums anymore, but I figured nobody would get too bent out of shape when it's free. I have a Neptune AquaController serial cable that is free to whoever wants it. It has been modified. It now goes from the AquaController plug to an RJ-45 plug (cat-5/6 connector used for ethernet) and another half that goes from RJ-45 to the serial connection. I connected it to my server upstairs via my home network wiring. It worked very well over a run of at least 50' of wiring through my home (I was surprised that switching it to cat-6 increased the distance that much). NOTE: it is still a serial connection, don't run it through an ethernet switch! The connection must go from the AC to a computer. If you don't want to run it over network cables, you can just get a cat-5 coupler for about $3 to connect the two halves together and then it will be just like what you buy from Neptune.
  4. If it makes you feel better... I had one disappear from a tank once. About 2 weeks later I found him behind a dresser that was about 3' away from the tank.
  5. Just a note... don't buy LEDs from anyone not specifying the bin. You can find the color temp range of each bin on the manufacturers website. You can also get much cheaper LEDs at dealextreme.com and kaidomain.com, just be sure they list the bin. Currently some of the brightest are the SST-90 and the MC-E however the XP-G R5s are pretty darn bright too.

    Hey Y'all

Just saying hi... Its been a while since I have been active on the board, so I thought I would check in and let everyone know that I am indeed still alive. Some of you know that it has been a very busy year for me and my family. Last year I changed jobs and the new one is a lot of work and has been very challenging. No more browsing INDMAS all day long Heck, now I hardly have a chance to check my personal email in the evening (hence posting this at midnight). My wife and I also spent the past year getting licensed as foster parents so we could (hopefully) foster to adopt. The end of April we had a 3 week old baby placed with us. He was born 7 weeks early and weighed 5lbs when we got him at almost a month old. Now he is 4 months old and is a chunky little guy. Anyway, it has been quite a challenge having both our daughter (2yo) and him with no maternity leave. Feeding every 2-3 hours is a lot easier when you don't have to work. To make it worse, my wife has started grad school full time in addition to working full time. Anyway, I was just feeling bad that I hadn't talked to my INDMAS friends in so long and wanted to post a much needed update. If it makes you all feel better, I guarantee I have neglected my tanks more than you. I will try to check in more often and hopefully make a meeting sometime soon. Maybe staying in touch better will inspire me to maintain the tanks a bit better.

  8. The Wal-Mart on W. 86th St. has a bunch of both Mrs. Wages and Ball pickling lime in their clearance aisle for $1 each. I think they are usually about $3. Just FYI.
  9. When I had mine built I did a LOT of checking around. My decision came down to either Midwest Custom Aquariums or Envision Acrylic. Envision was the better known maker who everyone praises, and he negotiated the price to be very close to that of MCA, but the shipping was a killer because he will only ship packed in a wooden crate lined with 3" foam. I decided to go with Midwest and couldn't be happier.
  10. Not to be Mr. Downer, but it could also be the ich is simply in the trophont and/or tomite stages and thus are not visible on the fish. This is the reason so many snakeoils and ineffective cures have stayed around so long. People try them and they THINK they fixed the problem. Unfortunately, the only way to kill off the ich in your tank for good is to remove the fish, treat them with hyposalinity or copper, and leave the tank fallow long enough that ich in all stages has died.
  11. I've done enough to help with something like that. As long as it doesn't have to be pretty
  12. We should really poke around and find out where to set the default so we don't have this problem.
  13. I went ahead and fixed your account settings for you. For anyone else who might be thinking the same thing, you have to make sure your timezone in your personal preferences is set to GMT - 5 hrs.
  14. Ok... nothing to see here. Someone just got some incorrect advice from a friend. Honest mistake. As I said earlier, its my fault the posts got messed up. Still not sure what exactly happened. Everyone please welcome scarpart1984 and be nice to him... not his fault.
  15. I know I already told you via PM, but for everyone's knowledge, there is no post requirements here. Thanks for your cooperation in getting this resolved. Welcome to INDMAS.
