It is against code in Indiana to have your sump pump discharge to the sewer. It should be plumbed to the street drainage or to a runoff location outside. And YES this amount of salt will affect grass, flowers and plant material over time. Yes this will damage your sump pump over time, unless you have a cheap plastic pump. It's just as bad as having a softener discharge plumbed to a sump pit, which is also against code. I replace so many pumps due to this. My suggestion is to run a bunch of freshwater thru the pit afterwards. If you don't get the saltwater out it will sit in the pit and cause damage to the pump.

What is everyone storing their RO water in?
Scottdl99 replied to maginter's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
I've built a few of these for people. Right can is r/o. Left can is saltwater. Bulkheads thru the bottom of the cans. Has a pump under it so the water can be transferred to each can and recirculated to mix saltwater. Has a connection on the front to pump water with a python hose. Just have to size the pump to the distance you need to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Please tell me you are going to a gas tankless? If it's an electric tankless, they are horrible. If you need any plumbing help let me know. I install Navien for the company I work for. They run off a standard 110 outlet
