What skimmer and why? What do you own?
meacret replied to PatO's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
I'm currently running an SWC 150 on my 67 gal w 40b sump, I like this skimmer because it works and I got a good deal on it lol, on my 90 gal w apx 30 gal sump I'm running the vertex 180 int, this is by far my favorite skimmer, pretty easy to set and let it go....I've got a reeflo orca that's good for up to 1000 gal here's a pic just for fun! for the record I'm not running the orca!! I know I'm probably doing everything wrong in my main SPS tank, I dose 2 part bionic calc n alk, use ESV salt, I haven't done a water change for 3-4 months right now, I usually only do them when I "feel" like it's time, when I do I change 25% or 25 gal as my entire setup is apx 100 gal, I run a ridiculous refugium full of at least 8-10 different species of macro, at the moment I'm very excited at how well everything is growing and the coloration I'm getting, great thread!! I went with sand because in every fuge I've ever had it had sand, there seems to be enough clean up crew taking care of that sand as it, as a whole keeps looking better, the macro growth is off the charts, so to sum it up I feel that the sand bed adds more to the filtration, especially in my case where it's 3" deep, if you prefer sand as do I, I recommend having a oversized cleanup crew in the fuge, as its working great for meek at week 10, here's a shot of it right now too so if you compare previous pics you'll see the changes well and note that the changes are for the better, best of luck with your build, if you have any questions or if I can be of help in any way please let me know! Stang that's actually a 4' beams work led (similar to a marine land) that I was able to squeeze up above, Budman yes there's a small pump in the sump that is plumbed to the bulkhead in the fuge, then it simply drains back to sump, thanks guys for the comments! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
