Homemade aquarium stand

Thanks Noodle, I can't wait to see it finished myself!

I can't get a good look at the center supports for the stand but considering the weight of a 90g you may have to consider at least beafing up the corners and adding a center support. We had to do the same thing just to make sure the stand we made could support the weight of our 120g. It looks awesome and I love the finish stain on it! Great job!tanksupports002.jpg

Thanks reefgurl I've got beefed up corners, 2x4s making up the corners

and 2x4s behind the frame for center support. My top frame, honestly,

would hold a lot of weight, a 2x4 on edge is a lot stronger than people

think. It takes approximately 10,000 psi to break a 2x4 on edge, once

you figure in that the load is spread across the whole 2x4, you won't

even come close to that much weight with an average aquarium.

Most of the problems from weight is when the structure twists, that is generally

when most load bearing structures fail.

Thats a good thought, we are going to go over to inland aquatics tomorrow, I'll have to stop by menards and pick up an GFI outlet. Wish I would have thought of that about an hour ago, I was just at the hardware store...

Ha ha, I want some custom stand work done, but I don't really need it. I was planning on building a canopy that would incorporate my hanging light fixture, but I've kind of lost steam- school is consuming me right now.

Thanks Lucas. Need some custom stand work done? Ive got the itch to build another one and the wife isn't going to let me buy another tank for a long, long time!

I understand where your coming from, I probably could had mine built in two days, but work always seems to be in the way... Stupid bills!
