Budman
Thinking of running a 20 gallon xenia fuge. Currently I run with macro algae with about a 1/4 of it xenia. I also have xenia in my display I was going to pull all of it and add it to my fuge. Thoughts on this has anyone local tried this.
ReefNewby82
Xenia is a good nutrient export. Newlin had a 75g fuge stuffed full of xenia and macro on his 200DD a couple years back. Was pretty cool to see a 75g full of xenia doing the most of the nutrient export. Gives you a visual idea of your pH depending on how fast it pulses as well. Good idea! Transplant
I've started one but it's going to take a while for it to grow out. I ended up getting macro algae in the DT when I trimmed so I decided to get a decent light down there and add a small frag rack as well. ryansweet
Always wanted to try it. Xenia is one of the coral that I cannot keep at all. I've gotten "un-killable" stalks from people and it has wasted away in my tank and sump. Don't know what it is, definitely not lack of nutrients... blowfish770
I will kill them every time I have never got them to survive
Budman
Well I think I will go for it. With what I already have started in the fuge and what I have in the tank. It will give me a good start. I think I will use egg Crete and cover with frag disk and plugs so I can harvest some.

Thanks, Scott
ReefNewby82
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-02/ac/feature/index.php About 3/4 the way down under Behavior it talks about pH and the pulsating relation between pH and alk levels.
Luke33
I say give it a go Bud and let us know how your nitrates do. I have always heard about xenia and nutrient control but do not have any experience.
SantaMonica
Did not know about the pH effect either.
lrood
Here is a short vid of my xenia garden - doubles as a small frag tank & home for my clam (coral beauties took a liking to it).
Transplant
Looks like some green star polyps in there as well? I take it xenia is winning the battle? I debated on putting my GSP in mine, but wasn't sure which would win.
lrood
Interestingly enough, the GSP stays only on that right front wall, and the xenia never seems to move into that area. The xenia does obviously dominate the rest of the tub though!
