I've found these http://m.ebay.com/itm/252555743718?varId=551465120698 2 of them would be under $75. I just don't want to take the cheapest route and regret it for some reason. It's been a crazy 1.5 years and I'm looking forward to having some life in the tank again. Also, heavily weighing if I want to swap out the acrylic tank for a starfire glass tank.

I've had a reef tank for 4+ years that I sold everything from when work got too crazy to keep up in the maintenance. I'm ready to jump back in but would like to go a different direction now and try fish only. First things first, I need to pick a light. I'd like an LED light just to save on energy. My tank is a 150 tall so it is 48"L x 24"W x 30"D What is a good recommendation for a light if I also want to minimize algae growth? http://m.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+27873&pcatid=27873&r=951 Seems ok but it's also for coral so I figure I can get something cheaper that meets my needs.

My six line is never more then halfway to the surface. Most of the time he's in the bottom 6" of my 30" tall tank.

Now that my nitrates are finally under control I'm wanting to add some fish back into my 150 mixed reef tank. I currently have: Hippo tang, tomni tang, 2 clowns, 6 line wrasse, blue chromis, flame angel, and a Banggai Cardinalfish. In the next several months I'd like to add 3-4 more. Here're the ones I'm eyeing. Splendid dotty back, fire fish, pyramid butterfly, copperband butterfly, anthias Anyone have success in keeping a copperband for a long time? I've read that anthias need to be fed a couple times a day. With my work schedule I could do that about 60% of the time. The other 40% they would only have a single feeding. Does that eliminate them from my possible list?

Automatic feeders work? Or go into overflow box?

Would using sinking pellets work best and rig something so they drop into a large diameter PVC pipe so they sink before going into the overflow -
Several different types of par 38 bulbs
Recliner replied to PopEyeTim's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
It was a Ecoxotic par38. I shouldn't have bought it, never used it. The idea is good I think, just get a 120 degree bulb. Mine was 40 degree, and didn't have the spread needed. -

I had the same idea and got one, but mine had way too narrow of optics. I just went with a bulb for chaeto only -
Got my 2 vortech mp40's up and running today
Recliner replied to Recliner's topic in General Reef-keeping Chatter
I have 2 wp40's and a wp25. I'm using 1 of the 40s still while I decide what to do. If I like the vortechs I'll be selling at least a wp40 and a wp25. Might sell both wp40's if I get a 3rd vortech -
I have used a hair dryer to heat up the outside one and then get the inside one wet and it slides on easier.

I stopped using mine and 3 weeks later my powder brown tang got pop eye and died. I had that tang for a year and he was beautiful. I hooked it back up and will always use one from now on. I have the turbo twist 18 watt uv sterilizer on my 150 tank. It's rated for up to 250 gal and can be bought new on eBay for $140 with free shipping. Just needs a mj pump

Got my 2 vortech mp40's up and running today

Today I got my 2 vortech mp40Wes pumps in my tank and running. I have them running sync'd in reef crest at 90% power. Due to the way my tank is built out of the wall and visible on 3 sides (and all power plugs in a closest behind the tank) I have both of them on the back side of the tank. I'm wanting a total of around 6,000-7,000 gph of flow in my 150 gallon mixed reef tank. I have 750 gph from my return. If I ran the mp40 on a constant flow at 90% power I'd get 2,880 gph. Since reef crest ramps it up and down I'm guessing I get about 1,700gph from each. I still have one of my jebao wp40s running at 2/3 power (~2,200gph) so I get up to the gph flow I want. I'm trying to decide if I should just stick with the 2 mp40 and 1 wp40 or if I should get a 3rd vortech mp40. I love the clean look the vortech's give. I can hardly see them on my black back glass. I'm worried about dead spots if I get a 3rd cause all 3 would have to be on the back glass. -

I'm not finding that salt online. Can someone post a link to somewhere that has it so I can look into it? -
The speed control is only on 1 of the wave maker funtions. I would suggest spending an extra 10-12 bucks to get the volt controller like I did so that you have total power control.
